Let down
Let Down is a painting and mixed media exhibit. When a new Mother has a baby, the milk that is to be fed to the child is triggered hormonally. It is something that happens naturally and usually without conscious thought. As a new Mother myself, I found the term odd. I had only known it in one context, to disappoint. Navigating the world as a Mother, I can’t help but notice that society has let mothers down for a very long time. And not just parents but other vulnerable members in our community. The show is in three series with some overlap: Motherhood, and the welfare of Children, and Animals. Once you become conscious of the mistreatment, it’s something that can’t be ignored. Enjoy the show!
Every Piece Sold benefits different organizations. They are Iowa Farm Sanctuary, Young Women’s Resource Center of Iowa, CFUM Program, and Save The Children.

Domesticated in Denim Series
Denim Frame and Print
This series depicts several scenes of animals in human settings. By anthropomorphizing these animal characters, it calls attention to how we have separated ourselves from the natural world. When in reality, they’re conscious, intelligent, emotional beings, just like us. They want a safe home, healthy food, clean water in a caring community. I like to put animals in ideal human settings because it’s an environment that I can control. In this fictional depiction, I would like to provide them an ideal world, even if it’s just inside a frame.

Generations of The Granny Square
Acrylic on Six Wood Panels with custom frame
These blankets symbolize and honor the Grandmothers before us, and the modern mothers who rely on one another when community resources continue to disappear. But the blankets remain, that, and the knowledge that is passed down through intuition, stories, with all the love woven into each stitching. Each square is slightly different in brushstroke styles highlighting the individuality of the knitters. Even with instructions, there is always human variation.
As a new mom, I was gifted many blankets, some old and some new. They are a symbol of safety and a promise to keep the young warm and cared for in their infancy. I feel more connected to the collective/women who knit these blankets after becoming a mother.

Souls Set Free Triptych
15x30in Paintings in Custom Wood Frames
The Mourning Doves carry pieces of ripped quilts for the children who have passed during war and violence. The quilt, usually representing warmth and safety is tattered and destroyed. Sequins are sewn into the fabric to represent the lost souls, on their way to be tucked in once again by the Doves. Green represents the color of healing and the bright colors and sketchbook-like drawings are to lean into the adolescence of these lost children, keeping it playful and loving, like they are. The written text says…
“And under tonight’s sky there was peace and full bellies. For your child is my child and we share the same sky”
$2600. Partial proceeds go to Save The Children.

Mixed Media Canvas In Custom Wood Frame with Chalk and Eraser
A mixed media painting highlighting the impact of defunding public schools. Iowa was once ranked among the best in education. The painting is a blatant cry for help from the young student’s perspective, written in crooked penmanship and missing letters. It’s a call to action to keep schools an enriching place to learn and to do so safely.
30x30 inch canvas with a custom wood frame and shelf for the chalk and eraser.
$2600 Partial Proceeds go to CFUM program, a necessary program for kids before and after school.
